GuitarStand@Blackhill Returns

The Blackhill Club resumed today with an expanded membership, although we were restricted by the 6-max rule.

To overcome the limitation of numbers allowed to attend, we are rotating members on alternate weeks. We can only wait and see if this policy is a success over the coming weeks.

Anyway, besides not being allowed our famous coffee & biscuits break, (The Kitchen is O.o.B. for now), everything went really smoothly.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves as we ploughed through a full Play-list – Must have been the fact we didn’t have that Coffee-break.

GuitarStand@Bullon Re-Launch

As if they had never been away, the group slipped seamlessly back into action with an amended play-list.

A great time was enjoyed by all as everyone resumed pretty much at the same level they were at, if not better, a year ago. Not wishing to claim cedit here but, I’m guessing the on-line play-along nights might have had a bit of a hand in this.

So here’s looking forward to more of the same.

The KIDz are Back in Town

The KIDzGuitarStand@Bullion After School Guitar Club had it’s first session since COVID19 took over our lives.

Strict rules ensuring everyone’s safety were followed and those attending were both excited & enthusiastic.

We mainly reviewed a lot of things we had covered prior to lockdown just to assess where everyone was at and to bring those needing it up to speed.

Play-Along Week 4

22nd April 2021

Week four of our Play-Along Night proved just as popular as the the previous three.

We did have some sound issues this week, but we suspect this was mainly down to individual broadband widths, as the feedback did vary.

Nonetheless, everyone seemed to enjoy the night despite the very limited vocal capabilities of yours truly having it’s regular wobble. But then, this has been a consistent theme week on week, so I’m supposing they’re just used to that by now and tend to turn a deaf ear whenever it did happen.

String up-date? I’m using a D’addario third string, having experienced further breakages and having switched Bridge Pins. So far so good – that’s for those of you purists who consider using anything other than Elixir Strings on a Taylor Guitar a sin. If this holds up, the faulty batch theory holds firm.

Play-Along Week 3

15th April 2021

Again, another enjoyable session and, again, the string breakages continue.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the session as usual.

The strings have all been breaking in the same position, (The Bridge), suggesting it could be a sharp edge on either the Bridge Pin, the Bridge or, the string batch contains defective third strings, (As it has been the same string each time). The Jury’s still out on this one

The Guitarstand@Bullion update:-

A Message to all Members9th April 2021

Hi to all members.

The Government’s Road to Recovery seems to be taking affect. Well. so far so good, at least.

I spoke to Martin of Bullion Hall via Zoom recently and, from that discussion, we can set WEDNESDAY 19th MAY 2021 as our provisional re-launch date.

Again, we have to be prepared to push back any dates proposed, if required to do so. Something we’re very familiar with, I know, but at least we’ll be under starter’s orders when the time is right.

It might be worth checking out the the Covid rules/guidelines for operation :- http://tomwelchguitar.com/?page_id=4519

KIDzGUITARSTAND@Bullion Provisional return date

Hi to all members.

The Government’s Road to Recovery seems to be taking affect. Well. so far so good, at least.

I spoke to Martin of Bullion Hall via Zoom recently and, from that discussion, we can set WEDNESDAY 19th MAY 2021 as our provisional re-launch date.

Start time will be 4:45pm for an hour, which will allow everyone time to safely exit the building before the next group arrive to start at 6pm.

Play-Along Week 2

8th April 2021

Another enjoyable session with a seamless continuation of both music and craic.

One of the side elements of entertainment was the fact that I went through 3 x “G” strings – ( and before anyone wades in here, no! these were definitely not wardrobe malfunctions – I have a strict rule about that kind of apparel, only on weekends).

Having never ever broken a string in decades, I was appalled to find that, like the old London Buses Cliche, 3 came along at once. Luckily, I had reserves on hand, but I eventually reverted back to my old Aria acoustic guitar for fear of further breakages.

So that’s week 2 of 6 completed. I’m really looking forward to the remaining 4 sessions.

GuitarStand in Conjunction with Bullion Hall Present Live On-Line Play-Along Nights

1st April 2021

We held the first of the proposed Six Zoom Play-along Sessions last night and, it went down really well even though it was a week later than planned. The feed-back has all been positive with everyone enjoying themselves.

With a decent turnout, obviously everyone liked the music and enjoyed taking part. But it was the banter which was also a big draw, as it continued from our earlier trial weeks on Google Meet.

Another thing which we continued was the development of our play list. This was drawn from our Blackhill Play-List with a few new additions.

Let’s hope everyone is still as enthusiastic next week and the weeks that follow.

Guitarstand@Blackhill

17th March 2021

Hi to all Blackhill Community Centre Guitar Club members. I hope I find you safe and well.

The latest provisional date for re-launch of the Guitarstand@Blackhill can now be set for Saturday 22nd May at 12:30pm. Further details will follow as soon as they become known.

Again, we have to be prepared to push back any dates proposed, if required to do so. Something we’re very familiar with, I know, but at least we’ll be under starter’s orders when the time is right.

Live On-Line Play-Along Nights

19th March 2021

Week 2 of the trial Play-Along nights took place tonight, (Wednesday 17th March), using the Google Meet platform and, despite a few more technical issues, we got down to some serious music.

Again, everyone taking part really enjoyed the night which gave us the opportunity to work down our playlist and, John was allowed out of the coal house, (obviously in lieu of good behaviour). So it was certainly good to see him.

I was not immune to the techy glitches this week, but I managed to get past them and the show did go on.

Next week is the first in the last, (3rd), of our google meet trial nights before we embark on our 6 weekly instalments of the joint Bullion Hall/Guitarstand Play-Along-Nights. Every Wednesday at 7:30pm for 6 weeks. Let me know if you want to join us, it’s free.

If you want to join us on Zoom, let me know at guitarstand01@gmail.com

Our regular weekly on-line Play-Along-Night will revert back to Google-Meet for a couple of weeks when the 6 Zoom sessions end. After that, we should be resuming at Bullion Hall in person on 19th May. Should everyone still want the on-line meeting to continue from that week, we shall probably have to change our evening to Mondays.

Again, please do let me know if you want to join us by contacting me at guitarstand01@gmail.com.
